What is SR&ED?
SR&ED is Canada's largest tax incentive for business R&D. When your team works through a technical problem where the answer wasn't known in advance, a portion of the salaries, contractors and materials involved can be returned as a tax credit. For most Canadian-controlled private corporations, that credit is refundable — you get cash even if you aren't profitable.
Do you qualify?
You're likely a strong candidate if:
- You're a Canadian-controlled private corporation (CCPC)
- Your staff solve technical problems, not just apply known solutions
- The work involved experimentation, iteration or technical uncertainty
- You pay Canadian salaries or Canadian contractors to do it

Common questions
What is SR&ED?
The Scientific Research and Experimental Development program is a federal tax incentive that refunds part of what Canadian companies spend solving technical problems — mostly salaries, contractors and materials.
How much can my company get back?
Canadian-controlled private corporations can receive a refundable federal credit of 35% on up to $6 million CAD of qualifying expenditures a year, and 15% above that. Because of the 55% overhead proxy, that's roughly 54¢ CAD per dollar CAD of qualifying salary. Most provinces offer additional credits on top. Non-CCPCs generally receive a 15% non-refundable credit.
What does 'no credit, no fee' mean?
Our fee is 15% of the credit CRA actually assesses. If your claim produces no credit, you owe us nothing.
How far back can we claim?
You must file within 18 months of the end of the tax year in which the work was done. Miss that window and the credit for that year is gone.
Do we need lab coats to qualify?
No. Most claims come from software, engineering and manufacturing teams that faced technical uncertainty and worked through it systematically.
